HIVE Hydrogen brings together decades of experience in the hydrogen and industrial gas sector.
Through our decades of experience in the hydrogen and the industrial gas sector, we’ve recognised the great potential that hydrogen possesses to aid worldwide decarbonisation. Whilst there has been considerable progress, the renewable energy sector has reached a critical juncture. The easier opportunities have been taken and commercialised, now we need to enable renewables to reach further into our energy demand. Hydrogen extends renewables into mobility fuels and heat applications. However, now the industry requires scaling up in order to reliably provide low-cost green and low-carbon hydrogen.
Given a lack of joined-up thinking between government, producers and the applications their hydrogen will serve, there is a risk market failure resulting in insufficient supply or off-takers.
Enter HIVE Hydrogen. By utilising a whole-systems approach HIVE Hydrogen helps customers understand where they fit in the hydrogen value chain, what they’re missing and, how we can help them achieve their ambitions. Through our technology-neutral approach, we identify the most-suitable technologies and processes to maximise our customers’ businesses cases and achieve maximum decarbonisation at optimum cost.

The HySaaS project (Hydrogen Storage as a Service) is a groundbreaking, Innovate UK funded, initiative that aims to revolutionise Storage and Distribution (S&D) solutions within the developing UK hydrogen market. The project – which features collaboration between HIVE Hydrogen, Chesterfield Special Cylinders, University of Sheffield AMRC, and Element 2 – has recognised the opportunity to significantly reduce the cost of hydrogen S&D and will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on deploying a Storage as a Service (SaaS) business model, focusing on three critical areas:
Using our decades of experience in the hydrogen and industrial gas sector, HIVE’s responsibility in the HySaaS project, alongside overall project management, is to provide hydrogen market expertise to the project’s technology development and business model innovation activities to drive the uptake of the HySaaS approach.
The ports of the Atlantic Area will investigate the use
of technologies based on green hydrogen from marine
energy and other renewable energies.
The HYDEA project consortium, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 programme, brings together entities from Spain, France, Portugal and Ireland under the leadership of the EnergyLab Technology Centre, with the active participation of 4 ports – Port Authority of Vigo, Port Authority of Seville, Brest Brittany Port Company and Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo-, 1 technology centre – France Energies Marines -, 2 universities – University of Galway and University of Porto – and 3 companies – Hive Hydrogen, Automotive Synergy Evolution, and Energy Observer Developments -. All of them will also have the support of 13 associated entities: 7 Atlanticport authorities and 6 entities promoting clean energies
HIVE Hydrogen have developed an extensive professional network of suppliers, technology producers and experts which we will call upon to tackle this challenge head-on via the deployment of integrated hydrogen value chains. We have close-working relationships with electrolyser producers, compression and storage manufacturers as well as technology integrators and regularly call upon these qualified, proven, reliable organisations to help us deliver full hydrogen solutions to our customers.
As well as physical installations, HIVE Hydrogen also offer knowledge sharing to aid the development of the sector. We’re not just in the business of infrastructure. We want to share our expertise with other hydrogen-interested businesses to create the thriving regionally centric sector we know is possible. Whether you’re an existing hydrogen technology business looking to increase your market presence, looking at bringing out a new product or getting started in hydrogen for the first time, HIVE Hydrogen will work with you to maximise your hydrogen potential and develop the best hydrogen business models to suit your needs.
